Reportr
Overview
Reportr is a Python tool that began as an intern onboarding aid and evolved into a multi-purpose solution: generating repo summaries, progress reports, documentation, and security scans to make codebases more transparent and accessible for entire teams.

Process
Reportr began with a simple goal: make onboarding less overwhelming. Our first features — Summarize Overview and Summarize Details — gave new contributors quick, high-level or in-depth descriptions of a repository’s structure and contents.
From there, we expanded into progress reports, which generate contributor summaries, highlight recent commits, and surface patterns in development activity. This shifted Reportr from an intern tool to something equally valuable for product managers and engineering leads seeking visibility into team contributions.
We then added automated README generation to streamline documentation, followed by a security scan that detects and explains issues from low to critical severity.
What started as a small onboarding helper grew into a comprehensive Python tool that simplifies onboarding, improves documentation, and strengthens security — making repositories more transparent and accessible to everyone.
Outcome
Reportr won first place in Microsoft’s Global Intern Hackathon in the Future of Work: Digital Transformation track. Beyond the recognition, it demonstrated real potential for adoption such as through streamlined onboarding, improved documentation, and clearer visibility into teams' repositories. The project highlighted how a small intern team could rapidly prototype an idea into a tool with tangible impact across engineering workflows.
